How are you covering the most historic moment of the year or even the decade?
There isn’t anyone in your audience that doesn’t know that Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the US, but will they be following your coverage of the event or your competitions?
Here are the things I would do to cover Tuesday’s event.
1.) Twitter Twitter Twitter – this event was made for Twitter. If you are lucky enough to have someone on the ground they should be tweeting during the whole event. If you don’t have someone on the ground, find some people from your area who are going to be there and follow them on twitter, run the feed of their tweets on your site.
2.) Flickr: take the same action as above. Send someone and have them upload photos or follow someone from your market that is going and follow them.
3.). Blog While You Watch: if you can’t send your talent to the event, have them blog their thoughts while watching it on tv.
4.) At the very least link your site to coverage on other sites. CNN’s facebook page is a great source, the Senate’s inauguration page is streaming the event and msnbc will be covering the event with live video from the event.
Whatever direction you chose to take in covering this historic day, don’t miss this opportunity to harness the power of the internet in your coverage.
